Tumblr won’t let me respond to Asks for some reason, so I’m doing this:
The manga I learned from my brother and this book, and also from copying characters from Ken Akamatsu’s Love Hina and Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura. Eventually I wanted to create my own characters and stopped copying and started using my brother’s old figure drawing books. I didn’t take any real art classes til college Fall 2012 and Spring 2013, Drawing 1 and Figure Drawing respectively. There wasn’t much new to learn, just standard stuff I picked up from my brother’s books. Once you get into your head that manga is just simplified realism, there’s no other “tricks.” If you wanna get better faster, I think the best way would be to draw from observation realistically, and to not think “I don’t / can’t draw real people” because that just holds you back.
